The Red-brested Nuthatch Sitta canadensis is a year around resident of my back yard. This small (11 -12 cm) bird can often be seen climbing up and down the main stems of the trees in my yard.

Golden-crowned Kinglet, Regulus satrapa, at my backyard bird feeder in Gig Harbor, WA. With poses like this I wonder why the person that originally named these birds called them KINGlets. These tiny birds(about 3.5" long) don't usually come to bird feeders (they are insect eaters) but I guess with all the commotion he had to see what was happening in his relm.

A female Anna's Hummingbird "Calypte anna" that has taken up winter residense in my garden. She actively guards the two feeders that I have place for her chasing any other birds away if they try for a free meal.
